From Yehudit to Yentl: Exploring Gender and Queerness in Jewish Storytelling

Inspired by the daring, new interpretation ‘Yentl’ at the Sydney Opera House, this panel explores queer characters, motifs, and narratives within Judaism and Jewish culture from ancient times to the present. Bringing together a range of LGBTQIA+ Jewish artists and educators, this hour-long conversation and Q&A discusses not only feminist and queer reinterpretations of Jewish text and art, but the intertwined themes and symbols that have been embedded within global Jewish identity for thousands of years.

This panel shall be moderated by educator and humourist Shoshana Gottlieb (She/Her), the mastermind behind the Instagram account @jewishmemesonly. Gottlieb will be joined on stage by actor/writer Ziggy Resnick (They/She), AUJS programming director Rachel Palmer (They/Them), and director of ‘Yentl’ at the Sydney Opera House, Gary Abrahams (He/Him).
